Stacey Abrams Tapped To Give Democrats' SOTU Response

WASHINGTON, DC — Stacey Abrams, who narrowly lost Georgia’s governor’s race last fall, is poised to have a national audience on Tuesday when she gives the Democrat Party’s response to President Trump’s State of the Union address. Abrams gained national attention last year when she sought to become the nation’s first African-American female governor in history. Despite her eventual loss to Republican Brian Kemp, Abrams has said she will run for office again, and speculation abounds as to whether she will challenge U.S. Sen. David Perdue in 2020 or challenge Kemp for governor in 2022.

Georgia’s gubernatorial election was marred by accusations of voter fraud and election mismanagement from both parties. Kemp argued that Abrams was attempting to secure the votes of improperly registered voters, while Abrams said Kemp was trying to suppress the minority vote.
