Rock’s WrestleMania Plans Nixed, Slater to Referee, Enzo in NYC

There has been a lot of speculation over The Rock’s involvement in WrestleMania 35 lately. Some reports have claimed that Dwayne Johnson may be coming back to wrestle at the event while others note that he may be going into the WWE Hall of Fame that weekend instead. According to WrestleVotes, the former world champion was indeed scheduled to compete at WrestleMania 35 for a match against Roman Reigns. “The People’s Champion” was originally set to win the Royal Rumble match this January and then face Reigns for the Universal Championship at WWE’s biggest event of the year in April. There is no word on whether or not The Rock will be coming back to face Brock Lesnar for the title instead at the moment.

Rumble tidbit: Plan at one point was for The Rock to win the Royal Rumble & face Roman Reigns at Mania. That’s obviously not happening. Can Rock still win it & face Lesnar? I guess. Depends what kind of agreement Rock and WWE have. Once plans changed, Rock may have reconsidered.

Heath Slater and Rhyno made history by becoming the first SmackDown Tag Team Champions in 2016, and they’ve stayed together ever since. However, during Raw earlier this week, Slater and Rhyno faced each other in a singles match wherein the loser would be forced to leave WWE. In the end, Slater ended up getting the win, forcing Rhyno off of WWE programming for the foreseeable future. It was a bittersweet win for Slater though as Raw General Manager-elect Baron Corbin immediately made Slater take on a referee job. In the preview for this Monday’s Raw show on, it reveals that Slater will officiate his first match as a referee during the show. As for which match Slater will serve as ref, WWE is keeping that a mystery.

Even though his days as a wrestler are long behind him now, former WWE Superstar Enzo Amore is still attracting a ton of attention from the wrestling community. Amore most recently attempted to hijack WWE’s Survivor Series pay-per-view, and he has also taken shots at the company on social media and in his new songs. It has now been announced that Enzo (now known as nZo) will be coming to Broadway in New York City for a show. Interestingly enough, it takes place on December 26th, which just so happens to be the same date that WWE will be returning to New York for a live event in Madison Square Garden. It will be interesting to see whether or not Amore has any tricks up his sleeve later on this month.
