WWE RAW is live tonight from Keybank Center in Buffalo. Here’s the latest from WWE to get you ready for the show:
This is the Extreme Rules fallout show with advertised angles centering on the new tag team champs – The B Team – a continuing storyline between RAW Women’s Champ Alexa Bliss, Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey as well as a threat from General Manager Kurt Angle to strip Brock Lesnar of the WWE Universal title if he doesn’t appear on the show. In fact, WWE has already advertised that Angle will open the show with that segment.
RAW Opening Segment
WWE General Manager Kurt Angle is in the ring. Angle thanks every superstar for being a part of Extreme Rules. Their effort and dedication makes him proud to be the RAW GM. There is one superstar that hasn’t shown effort and dedication: the Universal Champion, Brock Lesnar. Last night, he gave Brock Lesnar an ultimatum. Show up on RAW, agree to your next title defense, or he’ll be stripped. It’s been 24 hours and he has not heard from either Lesnar or his representative. Angle is stripping Brock Lesnar of the WWE Universal Championship.
Paul Heyman marches out to the stage. “Ladies and gentlemen, my name is Paul Heyman…” Angle cuts him off and says everyone knows who he is and who he represents. If Lesnar doesn’t come out right now, Heyman is wasting his time. Heyman says it’s interesting that Angle says that because his client, the reigning, defending, undisputed Universal Champion Brock Lesnar… is not here this evening. Angle says Heyman leaves him no choice… Heyman runs to the ring. Heyman gets inside the ring and cautiously approaches Angle. A “Strip the title” chant picks up. Heyman says Angle and the entire WWE Universe has it all wrong. Heyman doesn’t blame Angle for his perception. Everyone thinks Lesnar doesn’t care about being the Universal Champion and that his sole focus is becoming the UFC Heavyweight Champion. Heyman assures him nothing could be further from the truth. Brock Lesnar loves being in WWE. Brock Lesnar loves being the Universal Heavyweight Champion. Angle asks why he doesn’t show up. Heyman says Lesnar wants to represent the entire WWE Universe and challenge for the UFC Heavyweight Championship with the Universal Title strapped around his waist so that when Lesnar once again becomes the UFC Heavyweight Champion, he’ll do it representing WWE as a two sport champion the same way Angle challenged for WWE Titles with the Olympic Gold Medals strapped around his neck.
Angle says he’ll keep this simple. Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Championship at SummerSlam or he is no longer champion. Heyman looks shocked. Another “Strip the title” chant picks up. Angle demands an answer right now. Heyman says Angle drives a hard bargain and is a hell of a negotiator. Heyman says, “Brock Lesnar will defend the Universal Title at SummerSlam.” Heyman says on behalf of his client, Brock Lesnar, he congratulates the WWE Universe for their voice have been heard. They have all screamed at the top of their lungs that they want more Brock Lesnar. The crowd loudly boos. Heyman congratulates them for making their voices heard by this highly intelligent General Manager. It’s official: his client, Brock Lesnar, will defend his WWE Universal Title at SummerSlam. The only thing Angle has to do is decide who will be beaten, victimized, and conquered by Brock Lesnar.
Bobby Lashley’s music hits, and he comes out to a good reception. Lashley says when he came back to WWE, he had two goals. The first was accomplished last night at Extreme Rules when he beat Roman Reigns. Now it’s time to accomplish the other. Lashley approaches Heyman, who is nervous. Lashley wants to beat Brock Lesnar for the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.
Drew McIntyre’s music hits. McIntyre asks why they think he came back to WWE. Did he come back to make the roster numbers and stand in Dolph Ziggler’s corner? McIntyre came back for change and to ensure the Intercontinental Championship stays around Ziggler’s waist. That was phase one. Now it’s time for phase two. A “YES” chant hits.
Seth Rollins’ music hits, and he power walks to the ring and immediately gets in McIntyre’s face. McIntyre cost him the WWE Intercontinental Championship last night. Rollins says if they need an opponent for Brock Lesnar, he is right here.
A guitar strums, and Elias walks out to the stage. Elias asks, “Who wants to walk with Elias?” Elias gets in the ring and says nothing sounds nicer than Elias as the Universal Champion. On top of that on July 23, his debut album drops. It only makes sense for Angle to ride that success into SummerSlam against Brock Lesnar.
Finn Balor comes out and says he was the first Universal Champion. It should be him against Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam.
Roman Reigns’ music hits, and he comes out to loud boos from the crowd. Reigns says he doesn’t have any excuses and doesn’t care about Brock Lesnar. Reigns just wants to fight someone tonight. Angle says they’re all deserving to be out here right now. Angle says we’ll have two triple threat matches and the winners will compete next week for the right to take on Brock Lesnar at SummerSlam. The first triple threat will be Elias, Seth Rollins, and Bobby Lashley. The other triple threat will be Drew McIntyre, Finn Balor, and Roman Reigns. That match is right now.
We go to commercial. Kurt Angle is walking backstage when Constable Baron Corbin walks up to him. Corbin asks what he thinks he’s doing. Two triple threat matches? Did he even get authorization from Stephanie McMahon? Angle says he didn’t think he needed it. Corbin asks why he isn’t in one. Angle says he didn’t deserve it since Finn Balor beat him last night. Angle then walks off.
